What NOT to do for a law degree

Hi Folks

Have you ever heard from your parents something that sounded like "You better study hard or you'll end up selling kuih pisang by the roadside". I have heard that almost daily, and ironically my aunt used to sell kuih pisang by the roadside in Cameron Highlands so I hope she's not too affected by this.

So one day I aspired for a career in the legal profession, and I really thought I would be a lawyer. I asked around and found out that there are quite a number of local universities that offer a law degree. But hey, local universities? Are you kidding me? Not quite mesmerising as I suppose?

I laughed at the suggestion of studying at a local university, there's no need to explain why. And so I heard of studying law as an external student from a reputable overseas university, and to top it off, it can be done locally without the need to go overseas. BINGO. That's what I was going for, and I quickly signed up at a local college.

So my initial study plan was this. Since I thought I was quite smart, studying few hours over the weekend would suffice. My weekends however were mostly occupied playing DOTA. So I thought to myself, this law degree can't be that hard, and fast forward 8 months later, exam was near. I still didn't thought it could be any difficult, and studied minimally.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that I failed my exam. I FAILED BADLY. Yes, I'm not afraid of telling others of my miseries. The purpose of this post is to actually let other aspiring lawyers (or any other fields) to know what NOT to do for a law degree (or other degrees).

What NOT to do - basically
1) Play DOTA without stopping
2) Talk cock in class
3) Never pay attention in class
4) Leave textbooks dusty cause they are never opened
5) Talk cock in class again
6) Underestimate the difficulty of passing
7) Forget Mom's nagging
8) Concentrate on checking out girls in class
9) Looking forward for break time when class just started for 5 minutes
10) Make fun of classmates
11) Be one and a half hours late for a two hours lecture
12) Kept on asking for friend's notes because those notes were so summarised they were probably 1% of the textbook, which looks darn attractive at that time
13) Thinking that selling kuih pisang by the roadside is not that bad afterall
14) Talk cock in class again and again

If you don't do the above, you have a good chance of passing your law degree =)

Me, myself and I Part 2

So off I go to KL.

Skyscrapers, highways, big cars, great food, and of course pretty girls. So now what? Its time to look for a job. I searched high and low, but none that met my expectations. I was quite naive, during interview I demanded RM5,000 salary with only STPM qualification. Needless to say I looked like an idiot. After countless searches and unlimited nagging from Mom, I settled being a waiter with very low pay. So life goes on being a waiter, nothing much happened until I visited a cyber cafe at SS15. As I mentioned before, I'm an avid gamer. So a cyber cafe is pretty much like heaven. After spending my hard earned money and time losing a few DOTA matches, I have a secret ambition. I want to open a cyber cafe so I could spend all time in it while still making money.

Of course it never happened, I couldn't even afford to buy a computer, let alone buying 50 of them and opening a cyber cafe.

So here I am now, writing this blog hoping to share my wonderful experiences with you guys.

Me, myself and I

Dear All

This is my first post. I have decided to start a blog to share my experiences with others because as a devout Christian, I believe sharing is caring. A good start is to introduce a little bit about myself. I'm 25 years old, currently living in Petaling Jaya. Although I look like a typical guy from big cities, I actually have a soft spot for nature, as I come from Cameron Highlands. There's not many people there, and that is why we are all very close as a family, unlike the people here KL.

Last but not least, mesmerising lady in Cameron Highlands.

I have never thought of leaving Cameron Highlands, because I just love it there, especially since my parents are still living there as well. However when I finished high school in Cameron Highlands, I did not know what to do. One day I was lingering around the farm when my mom came to me and said "Son, I think its time for you to go out and see the big world, don't worry about papa and mama, we will be alright". At first I paid little attention to her, because all I can think of at that time was DOTA, my favourite computer game. So my mom kept talking to me, and unsurprisingly I did not give any response. Suddenly she slapped me. She cried and shouted to me "Son, when will you grow up?".

I can never forget that moment. I have never seen my mom cried. I stood and apologised to her, and made sure I listen to her. She said "There's no future for you here son, it's time for you to start thinking seriously about what you want to do in life".

That night I cancelled my DOTA meeting with my friends, and went home early. I have decided, whether I like it or not, to leave Cameron Highlands and move to KL, for the sake of fulfilling my parents' dream.

To be continued.....
